Shrine of Remembrance

It's my second visit to The Shrine of Remembrance, a war memorial and one of the key landmark in Melbourne. The first time round, I didn't get the chance to go inside as it was already closed.

The eternal flame with the Shrine of Remembrance in the background. The flame never goes out to represent eternal life.

The Cenotaph - tomblike memorials in memory of those who died and their bodies are elsewhere. I'm assuming their bodies were not found? So sad

Japanese Leftlet 1945 -interestingly these leftlet are dropped from planes to tell people that the war has ended

The Changi flag. we watched the video to understand a bit more on the history relating to this flag. Apparently this was secretly kept in Changi prison where the POW are. It was a source of strength and hope to the soldiers at that time.

Some signatures signed by the POW

4000 Service medals each represents 100 Victorians who served in war

Father and Son Statue to honour and link the 2 generation of Victorian who served in WWI and WWII. My sis observed that they wore different type of uniform.

Melbourne city viewed from the top of the Shrine

On the way back, we noticed that each tree has a marked sign. one of them has this poppy flowers around it. We learnt that poppy flowers are used to commemorate the war cos it was the first sign of life after the war in France.

Some fallen leaves at the park. Weather turned a little cooler even though it was still around 37 Degree. We are just so glad to be able to walk outside without the 'baking oven' warm air we experience for the past 3 days.
